Natural Forms
These artworks have been curated by Zainab, a student in year 11 who has been collaborating on the development of this site. She has highlighted the imagination and skills of her peers giving an insight into how young people develop ideas and techniques.
Photographed by teachers at Abraham Moss Community School during lockdown in Spring 2020, these artworks represents what remained of GCSE Art and Design work at the school including sketchbook pages and final pieces.
Here is an example of a full sketchbook for the Natural Forms project - created by Zainab, who just so happens to be a wonderful artist herself.
‘We were asked to create a mind map influenced by our own interpretations of natural forms. This mind map was consistently referred to throughout the project, as it brought about new ideas when we were struggling. It also helped us to narrow down the project and start to make it our own, as they transitioned from the broad concept of natural forms to our own unique project.’

‘We were able to decided what we wanted to focus on, a few examples of this include; birds, sea life, cells, animals, food, landscapes, seasons, weather etc.’

‘Throughout this project we were asked to create 4–5 artist research pages, relevant to our chosen sub-topic, to help further develop ideas. We also created many sketches relating to our topic. These sketches were further experimented with in many different mediums, such as: acrylic paint, colour pencil, oil pastels, chalk, stick and ink, biro, clay, zentangle, watercolour. All these experiments were done to help develop the concept of the final piece.’

‘The last few weeks of the project were dedicated to creating the final piece, we did this by mind maps, mood boards, research, experiments, sculptures, models etc., until we were content with our final piece idea.’
